Enriching 21’st century skills in students is very important as the education system that is being followed currently was designed for a time that did not have much importance for innovation or analytical and soft skills.
Currently India is ranked at a much lower position on the innovativeness of the people in a country as a whole compared to countries like Germany, USA, Norway, Sweden and Japan who have invested heavily in human capital, education changes, innovativeness, and inculcating 21’st century skills into their students like analytical skills, problem solving etc.
While India is trying to improve in this area with initiatives and incentives like Atal Innovation Mission, but there is still a long way to go with major changes that need to be made in the form of including deep learning and encouraging curiosity in students by more interactive and engaging sessions which make the students inquisitive. The main problem nowadays is that the students only study to score good marks without thinking about why they are studying it, what they are going to learn or the essence of the topic.
For example: a student could memorise everything in the syllabus without ‘understanding’ a single word and not ‘learning ‘anything. We go to schools and universities to learn something that will help us develop but in today’s world nobody thinks or cares about learning as they think that the only thing that matter are marks and I don’t really blame them for this because that’s just the cruel way our system has been structured where all students develop a uniform mind set by bottling up their creativity.
I believe that the only way to change this is to change the system and inculcating critical thinking skills into students along with rehabilitation from social media addiction. Now this may not sound correct to some people but social media shortens attention span of students along with their creative skills which lessens their horizons for skill development and learning productive things while they can use it well by gaining knowledge from internet.
Logical Reasoning and Art Integrated Learning are two very good prospects taken by the government but will be rendered ineffective if the students don’t perform these activities wholeheartedly. The Pandemic has triggered a series of necessary and inevitable changes to education. I feel proud to say that our country has taken great initiatives like Active Engagement of Young Minds, new innovations etc. Teachers and Students have quickly adapted to the new normal.
Personally I feel that the only advantages of the pandemic are change in the NEP and unveiling or uncovering of the innovative power of remote learning in India. While I don’t want to sound like a broken record, being a student myself I feel that it’s my duty and responsibility to express or voice my concern of the distaste of students towards some of these activities because they don’t understand the importance of the changes. So I think that our government should take a few more initiatives to solve this problem like webinars collaborative tasks and debates, otherwise I am quite happy with the way our government is handling this particular problem.
These things are really important because developing creativity is crucial towards increasing the country’s GDP (Gross National Product) and National income as when these students use their creativity to invent a venture that is new, different, out of the box, helps society and creates jobs all the investments made in the terms of education and skill development shall pay off as these innovations or creations will generate income, become an asset to economy and also turn into a source of inspiration and motivation.
This will contribute to the creation of entrepreneurships, business ventures and innovative explorations unleashing the hidden power within India to convert it into a superpower in all fields of development and Igniting the Minds in it during the process.
We need to work towards better education for India to get its rightful place in history as one of the most developed in all parameters like Human Development Index, technology, innovation, Research and Development to take humanity to the final frontier of progress.
We the students of India solemnly swear to contribute towards the development of our motherland integrating technology with creativity, igniting our minds to reach our highest potential and helping the society around us in any way possible. We promise to channelize our energy towards gaining and using knowledge. We pledge that we shall restore the country into its previous glory to be called once again ‘The Golden Bird’.
JAI HIND!
